Ting Xiongquan (English: Walasse Ting, October 13, 1929 – May 17, 2010), born in Wuxi, Jiangsu, is a famous Chinese painter.
From 1960 to 1990, Ting Xiongquan lived in New York for 30 years. These 30 years can be said to be the most radiant and glorious years in Ting Xiongquan’s life.
Cai Lan, who is also a teacher and friend with Ting Xiongquan, and is also listed as one of the four great talents in Hong Kong with Jin Yong, Ni Kuang and Huang Zhan, said in an article commenting on Ting Xiongquan: Ting Xiongquan’s paintings are very sunny and bright, which are rare for other painters. …, it is also difficult to classify his paintings, because his paintings are by no means formal, he does not imitate others, nor is he influenced by others, and eventually he has his own style.
Because of his life-long research on “female body”, “female body” has become the center of Ting Xiongquan’s artistic thought. His joy in life, and the romance and sensuality shown in his works, some critics call his art “the art of eroticism”, but there are also those who “sorrow on art”, saying that Ting Xiongquan is a mad song and should cry lyric poet.
