Exhibition Introduction: Salon Art Capital, Grand Palais International Art Salon, Paris, France
The Salon Art Capital, an international art salon at the Grand Palais in Paris, is a must-attend annual event for the French art world. Invited by the President of France and the Minister of Culture, and jointly organized by the French Ministry of Culture, the National Museums of France, and the Grand Palais, it is currently the largest and most influential international art salon. The week-long exhibition brings together thousands of artists from over 40 countries, attracting tens of thousands of attendees from the cultural and artistic communities, political and business circles, galleries, collectors, and international art enthusiasts.
Since its founding in 1884, Salon Art Capital has been a stage for countless masters of art to showcase their masterpieces. Many internationally renowned artists have gained worldwide recognition through this platform, including Van Gogh, Cézanne, Monet, Renoir, Matisse, Picasso, Dalí, Chagall, Modigliani, Giacometti, and Chinese artists Zao Wou-Ki and Chu Teh-Chun. Many masterpieces have been sold here, marking significant milestones in their artistic careers. The salon upheld the spirit of libertarianism of the late 19th century, allowing participating artists to create without restrictions on materials. For over a century, the ever-changing works have not only inspired new waves and stylistic evolutions in art but have also enhanced the salon’s significant symbolic and historical importance.

Located on the axis of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, in front of the Ecole Militaire, the Champ-de-Mars covers an area of approximately 10,000 square meters. During the closure of the iconic Grand Palais for major renovations, this temporary building will host major art, fashion, and sporting events, such as FIAC (Paris Contemporary Art Fair), Saut Hermès (the “Jump, Hermès” equestrian competition), and the Chanel fashion show. During the 2024 Summer Olympics, the building will also host judo and wrestling competitions. Overseen by the Réunion des muséesnationaux, the Grand Palais, and the Grand Palais and Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, the building can accommodate 9,000 spectators.

60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and France: An Invitational Exhibition of Chinese Artists
On February 13th, Paris time, the annual French art extravaganza, “Art Capital,” will grandly open at the temporary Palais de Mars on the Champ de Mars at the Grand Palais.
With the support of the French Presidential Palace and the French Ministry of Culture, Art Capital, which began in 2006, comprises four parts: “Comparaisons,” “Independent Artists Salon,” “French Artists Salon,” and “Dessin & Peinture à l’eau,” essentially representing the overall landscape and trends of contemporary world painting development!
This year’s salon exhibition has attracted artists from nearly dozens of countries worldwide. The “60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and France – An Invitational Exhibition of Chinese Artists,” presented by the French Artists Salon, is an important component of this salon exhibition and will attract special attention from the French art world and audiences! The Chinese section of this exhibition is organized and promoted by China Expo France and Beijing Millennium Time Gallery. According to curator Zhang Siyong, this Chinese-themed exhibition carefully selects and recommends works by 15 contemporary Chinese artists: Cai Xiaosong, Lei Ziren, Ye Yuxuan (Taiwan), Xu Dongqing, Yu Lan, Lin Langming, Zhang Chunhua, Yu Jie, Luo Zilong, Tu Fang, Han Lixun, He Yuanliang (Hong Kong), Chen Sanyin, Wang Ying, and Zhang Meng. From the perspectives of thematic art exchange and diverse viewpoints, the exhibition professionally presents the unique and rich Chinese cultural vision and vivid artistic concepts of Chinese artists in the Paris Art Salon.
Participating artist Cai Xiaosong was born in Shanghai in 1964 and graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts in 1991. He has been working in ink painting ever since and lives in Beijing and Los Angeles. Lei Ziren, born in Jiangxi Province in November 1967, holds a PhD in Literature and a postdoctoral degree in Art Studies. He is a full-time professor at the School of Chinese Painting, China Academy of Art, and deputy director of the Visual China Collaborative Innovation Center. He received his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1989; from 2008 to 2012, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Art History and Theory, Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University; from 2012 to 2023, he was a professor and doctoral supervisor at Renmin University of China; from 2018 to 2021, he served as the director of the Jiangxi Academy of Painting and the Jiangxi Provincial Art Museum, holding the titles of First-Class Artist and member of the China Artists Association; in 2023, he joined the China Academy of Art. He previously worked at the China Times Economic Publishing House under the National Audit Office as a reporter and editor, planning and editing hundreds of books and magazines. His main research areas include Chinese painting creation and theory, the history of 20th-century Chinese decorative art, special studies on the history of Ming Dynasty painting, and the production and renarration of contemporary Chinese rural social images. His artistic practice includes contemporary ink painting and other easel painting creations, ceramic art, etc.

Yeh Yu-Hsuan (Taiwan, China) was born in Taiwan in the 1960s and graduated from the National Taiwan University of Arts. He has participated in numerous important exhibitions: 2023, “Eight Major Art Exhibitions,” Taichung City Arts and Culture Center; 2023 China Guardian Seasons Auction; 2020, invited to hold “One Body—Yeh Yu-Hsuan Contemporary Ink Art Solo Exhibition” at the International Exhibition Hall of the National Taiwan University of Arts; 2019, named one of the Ten Outstanding Alumni of the National Taiwan University of Arts; 2018, “Beijing Damei Center Art Museum Invitational Exhibition”; 2014, “Ullens Center for Contemporary Art Exhibition,” Washington, D.C. Yu Lan graduated from Beijing Second Foreign Language University and lived in Sweden for many years afterward, studying at the Stockholm School of Art and the Stockholm Prismar School of Arts and Crafts, and interning at the glass studio of Swedish independent artist Eva Nystrom. After returning to China, she furthered her studies in the glass studio of the Beijing Academy of Arts and Crafts (now the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University). She now has her own independent glass studio in Beijing and is a member of the China Glass Art Professional Committee.

Lin Langming was born in Beihai, China in 1988. He holds a doctorate from the Chinese National Academy of Arts and is currently a teacher at Jingdezhen Ceramic University, living and working in Jingdezhen and Beijing. Lin Langming’s artistic creations consistently explore the relationship between the individual spirit and the wider world, expanding the value of traditional Chinese culture in the contemporary context, and striving to challenge the characteristics and boundaries of the intrinsic language of ceramics, thereby externalizing his thoughts and concepts. His works encompass various forms of artistic expression, containing philosophical reflections and aesthetic implications, and possessing a strong contemporary feel. In the past, he has attempted to explore several themes such as the nature of porcelain and symbols, IP and design, and high art and popular culture. Meanwhile, Lin Langming’s works have participated in over 50 exhibitions both domestically and internationally, including in China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and South Korea, winning numerous national and provincial awards. In addition, his works have been collected by public institutions such as the China Ceramics Museum, the Shandong Museum of China, the New Zealand China Creative Design Centre, and the Piazza della Roca in Italy, as well as private collections such as Zhang Yongzhen, a well-known businesswoman in Hong Kong, and Henry Howard-Sneed, Chairman of the Asian Art Department of Sotheby’s.

Yu Jie, born in Beijing in 1970, is an associate professor at Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology and the founder of the “Clear Ocean” image production studio. He is also a photo production consultant for “Visual China.” Education: Master of Fine Arts in Photography (SCAD) from Savannah College of Art and Design, USA; Bachelor of Laws from Northwest University of Political Science and Law. October 2002: Solo Exhibition – Fragments of China 2002, Hamilton Hall Gallery, Savannah, USA. Eight works were collected by SCAD Dean Paul S. Wallace. October 2002: Solo Exhibition – Fragments of China 2002, Georgia, USA. Three diptychs and one triptych. February 2006: The series “Journey Through the Hutongs” was exhibited at the National Art Museum of China and was collected by the organizing committee of the “Chinese People’s Clothing” photography exhibition. 2007: The “80s Girls Series” was curated and auctioned by Poly International in Spring and Autumn. In November 2008, the Savannah College of Art in the United States held its 30th anniversary exhibition and collected the work “A Journey Through the Hutongs: Playing Mahjong.” Also in November 2008, the works “Dream Girl” and “Post-80s Girl” were exhibited at the National Art Museum of China under the title “Art, Science, Fashion.” In November 2009, the translated book “Advanced Digital Fashion Photography” was published, originally by Bruce Smith. From April 27th to May 1st, 2010, the series of works was exhibited at the IN MY ROOM Gallery in Paris, France, as part of the “Paris: Young Chinese Artists Photography Exhibition.” From April 6th to 16th, 2012, a collaborative photographic exhibition with Intel at Sanlitun Village in Beijing, titled “Technology, Art, Energy,” was held. From April 13th to May 16th, 2013, the “China Meets the Italian Renaissance” international art exhibition was held at the Palazzo Te Palace in Mantua, Italy. In April 2016, Yu Jie held a solo photography exhibition, “Volume and Form of the Times,” at the 798 Millennium Time Gallery. In July 2016, Liu Suola’s Sound and Visual Art Exhibition, “Liu Suola and Friends Band,” was held at the Songzhuang Art Museum. On November 26, 2016, she collaborated with poet Yan Li on the “Poetic Contemporary Art Fusion Exhibition,” which was exhibited at the Shanghai 21st Century Minsheng Art Museum. From December 26, 2016 to January 5, 2017, the works “Patched Girl” and “Online Vacation” series were exhibited at the “Blooming 2016” 2nd Shaanxi Provincial Modern Art Photography Exhibition. From December 16, 2017 to March 3, 2018, Yu Jie held a solo exhibition at Secoo Art Club. On January 19, 2018, Yu Jie and Liu Suola’s Sound Art work “Wild Geese and Cranes Cry” was performed at Lincoln Center, New York, accompanied by the Juilliard School Symphony Orchestra. Tu Fang was born in 1970. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Jiangxi Normal University in 1998. From 2013 to 2014, he studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1998, he has been teaching at the School of Fine Arts and Design of Yichun University in Jiangxi Province as an associate professor. He is also a director and deputy secretary-general of the Yichun City Artists Association and a member of the Jiangxi Provincial Artists Association. Han Lixun is a renowned visual artist and the chief stage designer for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. A graduate of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, he furthered his studies in spatial art design at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts in Germany in the 1990s. He has held numerous solo art exhibitions and participated in art exchange activities internationally, and has served as the chief stage designer and visual artist for many world-class events. He currently serves as a visiting professor at the Shanghai Theatre Academy.

Chen Sanyin
Born in Beijing in 1986, Chen Sanyin graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at the Chinese National Academy of Arts in 2016 with a doctoral degree. She is currently a painter at the China National Academy of Painting and a member of the China Artists Association. Her works have been selected for the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th National Youth Art Exhibitions, and received the “Works Selected for Beijing” honor at the 13th National Art Exhibition.

Ho Yuen-leung (Hong Kong, China) Ho Yuen-leung graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1995 and received his Master of Fine Arts degree in 2002, majoring in sculpture. He enjoys collecting fallen tree trunks and supports, mainly Taiwan acacia trees, focusing on their delicate, long, thin, and slender shapes. In recent years, his work has even branched out into other art forms and themes, such as installations and environmental art designed to suit specific locations, in order to express his creative ideas.

Zhang Meng holds a PhD in Fine Arts from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and currently works in the Exchange and Cooperation Department of the China National Academy of Painting. Having studied traditional Chinese landscape painting since childhood, she has developed a deep emotional connection to “natural landscapes.” Her “Landscape” series reflects a renewed expression of inner emotions after gradually adapting to changes in her environment. However, the medium is no longer simply the exploration of abstract textures in “natural landscapes,” but rather the direct emotional flow from the people and things encountered in everyday life.
